We purchased our farm about 10 years ago and have slowly converted a dairy farm into a small goat ranch that also accomodates our beef, poultry, rabbits, a couple of horses and mini donkeys. It is a continual work in progress for us. Every year there seems to be a new project to tackle. We are always trying to improve and always open to suggestions.
With the Wisconsin weather, we have to be ready for just about any kind of weather you can imagine. We have to be able to keep our animals warm when wind chills hit more than 30 below and cool when the temperature hits 90. These are the extremes but it is a definite challenge. One of the best things we did was run heat to our barn with our outdoor wood furnace. The barn stays quite comfortable for all of our little kids and it sure makes the chores more enjoyable!!

After gutting the inside of our barn twice, we decided to leave one side wide open and with the use of these goat panels we can arrange them to suit our needs. This way I can have 1 huge pen the whole length of the barn or break it down into 4-5 large pens. We want to be able to give them as much room as possible, and with this system we are able to do just that. | |

"THE GOAT HOTEL"
This unusual building used to be an old corn crib we converted into a 2 story building. The bottom level provides a nice cozy shelter for the goats. |

We are just adding the finishing touches to our newly sided corn crib. At a very affordable cost we turned the old corn crib into a cozy three sided shelter for our goats. We installed a garage door so we can easily open this end up too during fair weather. It also allows for easy cleaning....just drive in the skid steer!!! We have a goat round bale feeder on the inside providing free choice hay at all times.
